About
An atelier led by Robert Beson.
Robert Bruce Beson IV
Robert founded AR-MA in Sydney in 2011. The name stands for architecture and manufacturing, joined by a hyphen; it also stands for Architectural Research – Material Applications.
He studied classics at Colorado College and architecture at the University of Sydney and the University of Technology Sydney. A Byera Hadley travelling scholarship from the NSW Architects Registration Board took him to Design to Production in Zurich, where complex architecture was carried into production through code. He has taught at UTS and the University of Sydney.
Since then AR-MA has carried the work of many architects, artists and builders from design to production. Today it is a small atelier making its own works and a few commissions, with Robert as author.
TODO: Robert to confirm every fact on this page before launch: founding year (2010 vs 2011 appears in older sources), degrees and dates, registration as an architect (NSW registration number?), scholarship year, and teaching history.
People
AR-MA has always been more than one person. Over the years its people have included its co-founder, Gabriel Ulacia, and Tony Ho, a computational designer and software developer who has been with the practice from its early years.
TODO: Confirm the list of past and present people to name here (and spelling: "Gabriel Ulacia" vs "Gabriele Ulacco" in older sources). The old site also listed Daniel Fink; confirm whether to include him. Add current collaborators.
